Christian County State Custody
No Kentucky adult prison was identified in Christian County in the official DOC institution directory. This page therefore describes a statewide receiving system, not a prison building in Hopkinsville. A person sentenced in Christian County may remain temporarily in the county jail, enter a contracted placement, or move to a state institution elsewhere. The conviction county does not establish the person's current location. Kentucky Online Offender Lookup, commonly called KOOL, supplies the state location and supervision fields needed to follow that path.
A disappearance from the Christian County Jail roster does not prove community release. The jail's past-inmate record may show the local exit and clues about holds or a receiving agency. When those clues point to a Kentucky sentence, KOOL is the next source. It can distinguish institution custody, community supervision, and a discharged status. Keep the jail booking number, DOC number, case number, and source dates separate. Each identifies a different record layer.
A transfer from Christian County Jail to Kentucky DOC is a custody change, not release to the community.
Confirm a Kentucky DOC Release
Search KOOL with the least information needed. A DOC number is strongest because names can match, but a last and first name can begin the search. Optional fields include offender type, PID number, supervision status, location type, location, county of supervision, conviction county, offense, demographic fields, and projected-release ranges. Review every plausible match. Then open the detail record and compare identity, DOC or PID number, conviction county, current location, status, sentence information, and supervision data.
- Open KOOL and enter a DOC number or minimal name.
- Compare all plausible results using age, middle name, identifiers, and conviction details.
- Read current location and supervision status before interpreting any date.
- Distinguish a projected date from an actual release, supervision, or discharge entry.
- Check the Christian County booking and court case when the path began locally.
- Request the DOC source record if public fields conflict or lack needed detail.
Parole means conditional community release from a prison term. Probation is generally imposed by a court instead of, or after, incarceration. Mandatory reentry supervision is a statutory end-of-sentence mechanism and is not a Parole Board grant. Discharge usually signals that the displayed DOC term or supervision ended. An absconder label alleges loss of contact with supervision; it does not prove a new conviction or show present jail custody.
Kentucky Release Date Fields
KOOL uses the exact label Projected Release Date and permits From and To filters. That value is an estimate based on the current sentence computation. It is not an appointment, a promise, or proof that a person left custody. Jail credit, earned credit, forfeiture or restoration, parole action, mandatory reentry, another sentence, a detainer, or a corrected calculation can move it. The Inmate Release Date resource explains why a displayed estimate must be checked again near the event.
| Field or status | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Current location | The location reported by DOC | Minute-by-minute physical presence |
| Projected Release Date | Current sentence estimate | Completed release |
| Parole or supervision | DOC authority continues in the community | End of supervision |
| Discharged | Displayed DOC term has ended | Outcome of every other case or hold |
| Absconder | Reported supervision noncontact | New conviction or current jail booking |
DOC advises that KOOL updates daily and cautions that recently entered information may take up to 120 days to finalize. Record the access date and preserve the site's own wording. If exact historical release time, release authority, or final discharge documentation matters, request the official record rather than treating a screen capture as the entire file.
Christian County Supervision Route
A person released from a state institution may report to the Kentucky DOC Division of Probation and Parole. Christian County is served by District 2. Use KOOL first to identify the person and displayed supervision status. For a reporting-office question that the public record does not resolve, contact the local office with the DOC number and enough identity detail to avoid a namesake.

The Kentucky Parole Board makes parole decisions, while DOC staff conduct field supervision. A hearing date is not a release date. A grant can still require processing and conditions. Denial, deferment, serve-out, rescission, or revocation has a different meaning. The Parole / Probation page connects KOOL status with Board schedules and decisions without collapsing these separate roles.
DOC Release Records Requests
When KOOL does not provide enough detail, use the Kentucky DOC open-records channel. Identify the person by full name and DOC number. Describe an existing record, such as the final release or discharge document, release-date entry, current time computation, supervision start or end record, or transfer record. A focused request is easier to route than a demand for an entire institutional file. Ask for electronic delivery when suitable and retain proof of submission.
Kentucky's Open Records Act appears in KRS 61.870 through 61.884. Agencies may redact exempt personal, medical, security, active-investigation, juvenile, sealed, or otherwise protected material. A requester can ask for the segregable nonexempt portion. Court judgments and orders come from the court clerk under court-access rules, not from DOC simply because the sentence is in KOOL. A Christian County jail release sheet remains a jail record, even when a later state sentence exists.
- Confirm the DOC number in KOOL.
- Name the exact release, discharge, transfer, or time-computation record.
- Give a useful date range and preferred electronic format.
- Send the request through the published DOC custodian method.
- Review any redaction or denial against its stated legal basis.
Kentucky VINE Release Alerts
Kentucky VINE provides custody-event notifications and is also available by phone at 1-800-511-1670. DOC describes coverage for prisons and county jails, including release, transfer, escape, and upcoming parole-hearing events. The Kentucky Attorney General states that state-institution notification is made, to the extent possible, 72 hours before release. Plans can change, so an alert should lead to a fresh KOOL and agency check.
VINE is a notification system, not a final discharge certificate. A released or out-of-custody status reflects the event reported by the participating agency. A transfer alert must remain a transfer. Register from the correct person's result, choose the offered phone or email channel, and use a controlled contact destination. For telephone alerts, keep the acknowledgment PIN private. The VINELink Release Check explains the identity and registration steps.

Credits and Release Calculations
Kentucky sentence calculations depend on the offense, offense date, sentence structure, court credit, statutory credit, and legal classification. KRS 197.045 governs state sentence credits, while DOC policy incorporated through 501 KAR 6:270 addresses administration. Credits are not automatic in the same amount for every prisoner. They can be earned, denied, forfeited, restored, or limited. Consecutive sentences and additional judgments further change the calculation.
KRS 439.3401 applies special restrictions to covered violent offenders, including offense-date and classification rules. The familiar 85 percent phrase cannot be applied to every Kentucky felony. Parole eligibility is also different from sentence expiration. A date allowing Board consideration does not guarantee release. Request the current DOC computation when a precise legal calculation is required, and obtain legal advice from a licensed attorney rather than improvising arithmetic from a docket.
Separate Custody Systems
KOOL does not replace Christian County's BlueHorse past-inmate search. Many local defendants bond out, receive time served, or have a charge dismissed without entering the DOC population. Conversely, a state prisoner may be housed outside Christian County even though the conviction arose there. A federal sentence belongs in the BOP locator. An immigration pickup belongs in ICE channels. CourtNet explains legal orders but may not record the minute prison staff completed release.
The safest sequence follows custody continuity: check the Christian County booking, read transfer and hold clues, use KOOL for the state layer, compare the court disposition, and request the source record when two systems differ. Dates and update schedules may explain an apparent conflict. Do not select the earliest date or assume the least restrictive status. State exactly what each source reports and what remains unconfirmed.
A current jail entry may appear after state release when a person is arrested on a new matter. That does not erase the prior DOC release. Match the new booking date and number to the older state record, then keep both custody episodes distinct. This prevents a later arrest from being mistaken for uninterrupted prison custody.
